Crew Housing operates similarly to hostels. Imagine a typical house with 2, 3 or 4 bedrooms and 1 to 2 bathrooms. Inside each bedroom you will find 2-3 twin/single beds with a nightstand, dresser and closet. Each bed has its own linens, pillows and bath towels. This is the setup you will find in all Smart Move crew houses.
The common living areas are shared amongst everyone in the house
- Living room
- Dining room
- Outdoor space
All our crew houses have Free Wi-Fi and Cable available 24/7. You'll also enjoy laundry facilities at each crew house which is convenient after a long day.
One of the nicest features we have is that we do not use keys. We use electronic door locks with door codes so there is no misplacing or losing a key! Both the front door to the crew house and the bedroom door have a door lock.
This code is changed periodically as security is our priority.
Crew Houses Are A Great Place to Meet Other Crew From All Around The World
All crew will share a common interest in the yachting industry and it is a great place to network and meet people.
Tenants in our crew houses make:
- Longtime Friends
- Meet Their Partners
- Make Great Connections
- Land Dream Jobs
In our crew houses you are expected to conduct yourself just as if you were onboard a yacht and the Captain is watching your every move. Just remember your overall attitude and how you conduct yourself within the industry will affect your success and ability to climb the ropes.
There is a noise ordinance in Broward County of 11:00pm so we ask that after those hours you keep the noise contained in the house and remember don't disturb your neighbors. Our crew houses are in suburban neighborhoods where homeowner's may have children, pets or the elderly so respect is a key issue.
Budget Crew Houses Vs Professional Crew Houses
We offer two types of crew housing depending on your budget. Both options offer you the same networking opportunities and locations are all central to SE 17th Street, Maritime Professional Training and Professional Yacht Training. Our crew houses are located about 3 miles to Blue Water Training.
Budget crew housing, is our most economical shared housing. These are older Florida style homes, with 3 people per room, bunk beds and can accommodate 4-10 people per house.
Professional crew housing, is the next tier of crew housing with modern houses that have larger bedrooms with only 2 people per room. No bunk beds. These crew houses only accommodate 4-6 people per house. Typically they offer additional amenities such as lockers, complimentary laundry facilities and TVs in each bedroom.
Whether you decide on budget housing, or professional both are great for anyone on a budget. It's a wonderful way to either begin your yachting career or continue to network and build up a wonderful group of friends and colleagues.
Expectations When Living in a Smart Move Crew House
We expect you to clean up after yourselves and keep our crew houses clean and tidy. We come by and do spot checks to make sure everyone is happy and comfortable and that the:
- Trash is being taken to the curb twice a week
- No dirty dishes are left in the sink
- Maintenance is reported
- No smoking indoors
- Clean up after yourself
- No friends sleeping over
Our housekeeping team comes in once a week to clean the common areas and replenish house cleaning supplies.
Most crew houses charge rates on a weekly basis, depending on the time of the year and type of accommodation.
We have a zero tolerance when it comes to drugs or late rent payments. We will evict you immediately if we find any drugs or drug paraphernalia. Regarding rent, we contact all crew and let them know when their rent is due. It is your responsibility to get it in on time.
Something to Keep in Mind
Due to the nature of the industry we cannot guarantee which house you will be in. We will do our very best to accommodate your requests, but specific houses cannot be guaranteed.
Island Breeze Experience: The Island Breeze complex sleeps 24 people (6 per house) so large gatherings, and noise: music, get-togethers and BBQ cookouts happen all the time. If you are studying and need a quiet space, we DO NOT recommend shared housing. Please consider booking a private apartment.
Be wary of very cheap crew houses. Cheaper crew houses will save you money but be prepared... the accommodation itself will be far from glamorous. It could possibly be worth paying more to stay in a better crew house.
