Superyacht dining: Staying in or going out?

Posted on: 08/14/2014

Today’s superyacht owners and guests have a wealth of luxury at their fingertips when dining in, or eating out.  Arguably, there is no restaurant, resort or bar that can offer the level of personalisation received by guests on a superyacht, making eating meals on board a favourable option for many.

A luxury superyacht is a guest’s opportunity to have their own gourmet restaurant with a five-star chef to meet their every culinary need.

When choosing a charter yacht, brokers can often provide sample menus from which to choose. Preference sheets are also provided for charters, which allow guests to be clear about any dietary requirements, allergies and preferences they have. Chefs and crew are accustomed to meeting extremely unique diets for charter guests as well as owners.

Casual meals can also be prepared if a more relaxed environment is required, especially at breakfast and lunch times, where eating out on the deck is a more popular choice.

However, it is more than likely that the superyacht will be berthing throughout the cruise to allow owners and guests to enjoy the nearby locations and a popular choice for an activity is dining in some of the world’s most luxurious and astounding restaurants.

Marinas themselves often have highly rated restaurants and dining services, and are in close proximity to some of the world’s most famous and luxurious restaurants.

Examples of luxury restaurants near marinas

Cambusa Italian Restaurant in St. Johns, Antigua and Barbuda

Located in Catamaran Marina, this restaurant offers ancient Italian traditional food in a relaxed atmosphere; the main highlight being the open kitchen, where the two Italian chefs prepare food right in front of the customers. The setting is also something to experience, with views over the coastline and marina.

Oceana in St. Thomas, Caribbean

Showing a fine example of the local seafood and using fresh ingredients to create innovative dishes, Oceana offers guests a truly unique experience. The setting completes the experience with guests treated to scenic views of the sun setting over the Caribbean Sea.

La Casitta in Santa Maria, Sardinia

Offering a private oasis with golden sands, blue water and fine food for lunch, the island of Santa Maria and the restaurant La Casitta is a popular choice. Guests dine on a terrace overlooking the gardens where the produce is grown for the restaurant.

Vini da Arturo in Venice, Italy

This restaurant features an award winning menu that hasn’t been touched in decades and offers a purely local feel. Famously, the likes of Tom Cruise and Leonardo DiCaprio have eaten here and fallen in love with the unique aura that surrounds the restaurant.

Restaurant Nautika in Dubrovnik, Croatia

Often visited by celebrities and royalty, this restaurant offers stunning views of the Adriatic Sea and the old Croatian fortresses. Its combination of history, cosy seating and views has given Nautika the reputation of being one of the world’s most romantic restaurants.

Whether dining in or eating out, it’s not merely feeding a hunger, it’s an entire experience that can offer mouth-watering delights, spectacular views, a luxurious ambience and unforgettable memories.  The choice is personal, both have their pros and cons, but if a truly personalised and intimate experience is sought, this is where eating on board has the edge.
